Grouping your collections

I have thought a lot about where to put these pieces of inherited art. I tried them in several places in house. All the dancers together and separate. I thought I had tried all the options, until I tried them all together.

The colors and frames don't necessarily go but the subject matter does so I say it works! I think I will go and get some antique gold rub and buff to put all over that more ornate frame to help it go more with the gold accents in the other frames.

Looking at these pieces reminds me of my grandmother, they were either hers or she painted them. She passed away 10 years ago and being able to look at these every day reminds me a lot of her. I think you should always have something in your home that is maybe a little out of place but brings you a lot of joy!

Art on a budget

I am sure most of you have heard of this well known secret for art in your home, but for those of you who haven't let me introduce you to Vintage Printables.

You can search for vintage prints, and download for free.

That's right F-R-E-E!

You can then use your art for beautiful things like this

The uses for this are ENDLESS!

Here are some others to try:

Enjoy!

Let me know if you used any of these. I would love to see some pictures, email me!

Walnuts....not just for snacking.

I have been thinking about my gallery wall and what to put in there. I have also been thinking about simplifying the arrangement and just doing a collection of pictures I have.

However, the focal piece is old and has seen better days. There are a lot of nicks and scratches all over the frame

Enter the walnut. I had read somewhere that the oils in the nut helps with camouflaging nicks and scratches in wood. It was worth a try!

It worked!! Both of these pictures are in full sun and although it doesn't look like much ...
Before------------------------------------------After

It looks a lot better in the shade, almost like new!

And now "The Lady" is looking refreshed and ready for her closeup!

*Note* I tried this on some other frames with a little bigger gashes and it does not work well for those. I would just keep this treatment for more superficial dents and scratches.

Let me know if you try this out! I was so happy that this worked and saved me from having to buy a new frame or paint it.

What is something that got a quick fix in your house?

Editing the gallery wall...and a guest post!

So I am still working on my gallery wall. I am trying a simplified version of my previous one here.

I did a VERY quick sketch to see how I like things together. Once I pick one I will put the big cut outs on the wall and then probably live with it for a bit to make sure I like it.

So which do you like best?

Now for my guest poster today, by  my daughter.  She decided  that she wanted in on the decorating fun and put this together all by herself.

Too cute, right?  She is only 4! I was totally impressed with her drawing skills (did you see that blue chair!), maybe we have a little artist/designer on our hands.

Family tree as art!

I think having personal art in your home can make the difference between a beautiful house and a beautiful home. Whether that means hanging your children's artwork, or being a bit more literal like Liz at decorating the ville.

The idea is originally from (The Giving Tree Family Tree) in Martha Stewart Living. She did a wonderful job and has a tutorial with extra tips on  her blog. I would consider doing one for my own home, but we would have large chunks of our family tree missing!

I am currently working on a gallery wall for my living room and can't wait to put up some of our treasured  family art into the mix.
