Designer Maria Beck

Today I am featuring a new to me designer Maria, from M. E. Beck Design. She is a talented designer from San Antonio, TX. She has a beautiful home and a stunning portfolio. Recently, she became a mother and has an adorable nursery that has made its rounds around the blogosphere.

Here are some of my favorite rooms.

Double take....Marble

If you are like me you probably spend hours upon hours reading design blogs, e-zines and magazines...ok well maybe you are not, but we all like good design!

I LOVE the look of an all white kitchen. ( In fact I have posted quite a few on my kitchen board on pinterest)! And although I drool over marble counters I don't know if I could handle the etching. I do like the idea of it telling a story of the people who live there...but the jury is still out on that one for me.

I was doing some research on marble look-a-likes when I stumbled upon this...

Looks like a beautiful piece of calacatta marble from Italy....

Would you be surprised if I told you it was Formica?!?

I sure was! With a 5 foot repeat this is not your grandmas Formica.

But what about those black/brown edges and you can't have an undermount sink with Formica.....right???
WRONG!

Formica has introduced a new laminate edging technology that allows for softer edging profiles on their countertops, complete eliminating the tell-tale brown line! Also, thanks to their new "Ideal Edge" you can round the corners and ends with ease.

And the undermount sink problem?
I found the answer to that on the blog kitchen and residential design

This is some crazy good news...

Yes some higher end clients who can afford the real thing (without taking out a second mortgage!) will not be interested in this. But for the rest of us, I think it is something to consider...

I even found a real world photo for you

Now she had her counters installed before formica announced the ideal edge, but it is still nice to see the product in real life.

So what do you think? Is this a game changer in the world of countertops? Time will tell, but it is an exciting option and I like a world of options!

Memorial Day

Please take some time and remember or give thanks to that service man or woman who risked their life or gave the ultimate sacrifice for you.

I know I will be giving a special thanks to my grandpa, a WWII veteran. Love you Gramps!

Happy Memorial Day!

Change is good...

Notice anything different?

I got a new taller side table! It was really bothering me to have a shorter table on the other side of the couch. I could only stack so many books to get the lamps to be the same height. Most of my books are still in boxes so I just grabbed what I could find for now.

I love the look of these accordion/campaign tables and will probably get a smaller round one for my family room. This one was from Kirklands and it is still on sale. I would probably only get it at the sales price though it's not the sturdiest piece but not flimsy either.

One question though....do I have too many leggy pieces or X's in the room? I can move the x-benches to another room. If I do that I think I still want to find some way of having another pair of stools or something to act as coffee tables, I like the extra seating.

Here are some other rooms with fabulous tables like these...

Beautiful rooms, all of them! I love the way this seemingly simple table brings in some structure and masculinity to a space!

HGTV On The Set

Have you heard of the show On the Set by HGTV? It is being hosted by the fabulous Emily Henderson  (who wrote a fabulous blog post the other day involving Ryan Gosling and gray paint....but I digress)

In the show they go through some of your favorite TV show sets (Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, to name a few...) and you get to hear from the set designers and others on the show tell you how they set up the sets and help bring more of the characters to life. I found it really really interesting and fun to watch, especially the one on Middle Family (I have never seen an episode but making that set looked like FUN!). I know I will never look at some of my favorite shows the same way again!

Check to see when it is on in your town!

Price tag on or off??

I am that girl with clothes in her closet that still have price tags on them. I'm just trying them out, seeing how they work with the rest of my clothes. Sometimes I make the decision in time to return them....other times, not so much. Now this is a little harder to do with home decor items which brings us to...

Price tag on or off?

Today's example is the ever versatile garden stool.

That one is from Z Gallerie

Here is mine from Ross
(sorry for the poor photo quality it was late and I was excited to share!)

Not an exact replica but pretty close. It is not as vibrant as the Z Gallerie one (more of a muted turquoise which is OK by me)

Now I was not actively looking for one of these, nor do I know exactly where it will go. But I saved $90...

Price tag on or off?

Here are some interiors to help you make your decision....

They are beautiful as stools for extra seating in a living room...

Accent tables or additional seating in a pinch...

Or as they were originally used for outdoors...

Let me know what you think?

Lonny you amaze me....

The newest issue of Lonny is out! YAY! Congrats to everyone who worked on it, they did a fabulous job!

Here are some of my favorite spots in the issue....
I don't know if it was just me, but I was totally drooling over the delicate lace pattern around the door frame! It reminded me of this stencil from Royal Design Studio. I'd love to do this in my powder room!

I loved the feature they did on Marrakech and how to bring some of it into your home...

I was inspired by the different examples they gave for decor over the bed!

Christy Ford's home (below) had some great reminders on how to keep a kid friendly home.

Is that a Starwars fighter out on display??? Awesome!

Yes, yes, yes....loved this family and dining nook room

I thought this was a fun and eclectic nursery that would be great for kid as they grew up!

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this beautiful kitchen designed by Croma Express

Check out the issue here!

I hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!

P.S. Be sure to check back here on Monday for a book review and my very first GIVEAWAY!

Tweaking it till it's just right....

I had a client ask for some help with her master bedroom. I worked on their room keeping what they already had (bed, nightstand, dresser, paint color). The room is beautiful with tall ceilings and crown molding they just needed help pulling it all together.

Here was the first board.
She loved it but wasn't crazy about the brown in the pillow or the linen-like drapes. So I made a few changes and we got ...

Option #2
This one was the winner....till the client found a champagne mirror she loved at Home Goods (love that store) So a few more tweaks...

Option #3

Success!
Although the board shows gold and champagne metals I sent her a link to champgane spray paint if she wanted to make all of her metals the same.

The beauty of having a design board is really whatever you want it to be. You can take the suggestions I have done and go and get each item, or use at a starting point to go out and make it your own!

Have you heard of T-Tapp?

No it's not a tap dancing routine, it is a style of exercise I have been doing since April 10 of this year.
I am currently in a 60 day challenge and am seeing some great results already! I have my eye on winning the grand prize, an all expenses paid trip to their retreat in Florida in October.

Teresa Tapp created her unique workout and effective cellulite removal program while working within the International Modeling Industry. You will start to see results within 7 days, I noticed changes happening even sooner than that. I have done a lot of at home workouts through the years this one is so very different and all activity levels can do it. I am not changing the way I am eating but since starting T-Tapp I have noticed I am craving foods that are naturally better for me, so that is a plus!

From the website here is what T-Tapp is all about:

T-Tapp is a series of copyrighted, sequential movements designed to put the body in proper functional alignment. Its special sequence of comprehensive, compound muscle movement helps establish better alignment as well as increased strength and flexibility of the spine, better neuro-kinetic flow, lymphatic function, and increased metabolic rate. Its physical therapy approach to fitness makes it safe for those with shoulder, hip, knee, neck, and back concerns. Yet, it delivers a challenging workout for all fitness levels!
T-Tapp's preventative wellness workouts deliver results inside and out. Instead of just focusing on burning calories and fat to lose weight, T-Tapp concentrates on helping the body rebuild digestion, assimilation, elimination, in addition to improving lymphatic function and neuro-kinetic flow. Increased energy, mental clarity and overall health immediately improve as your body tightens and tones. Faster inch loss occurs because muscles develop like girdles so they can uplift and cinch in target areas of concern. That's because T-Tapp develops long, lean muscle fibers with strength and flexibility for greater muscle density instead of muscle bulk. In fact, T-Tapp can redesign bulky muscles into lean, dense tissue! Best of all, this type of muscle development helps support the spine and joints in a rehabilitative way. Many injuries occur due to muscle imbalance, but with T-Tapp muscles are always built with strength and flexibility. It just happens that this type of muscle development also increases metabolic processing for higher burning of calories and fat even when not working out! Last of all, T-Tapp is a left-right brain, mind-body workout. Most have heard the phrase "if you don't use it, you lose it" but with T-Tapp it's never too late to rebuild fitness and health. Come discover "Yes You Can" with T-Tapp and FEEL the difference while you try some sample movements for free.
